Technology Operations

If you’re a business owner, large or small, you are responsible for all facets of your business.  Are you confident enough in your IT to know what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what to do to manage your “Tech” people?

Here is what we can do for you:

  1. IT Governance - IT governance provides a structure for aligning IT strategy with business strategy. A formal governance program adds, among other things, visibility and accountability throughout a business.  Examples include:

    • Are backups successfully run on the intended schedules and are we successfully testing the restoration processes, and can you attest to this?  What do if backups or restores fail?

    • Are you providing a safe working environment for your employees and visitors by implementing technologies that prevent information that is not suitable for work from being accessed from your facilities, and can we show our efforts if there is a dispute?

    • Are employees instructed on what is an acceptable use for company technology equipment and have they formally acknowledged and accepted this instruction?

  2. Why you need IT Governance – Today all businesses are subject to some number of regulations governing the protection of confidential information, financial accountability, data retention and disaster recovery, as well as employee protections, among others. Simplified: If you don’t know what is going on with your IT, you need to set up some governance.

  3. IT Steering - What would you like to see from your IT department? What would your IT department like to accomplish?  What does your IT department need to accomplish? What do you need from each other to meet the company goals?

  4. IT Employee Mentoring and Management - Employee guidance, reviews, secession plan, vacation planning/scheduling.  Best use of time. Evaluation and training recommendations. Assist in the recruitment and hiring of IT personnel.  Evaluate "Technical" skillsets for existing employees and prospective hires. Convey and train on the importance of accountability, communication, obtaining training and expanding knowledge, and more!

  5. Establishment or Best Use of Helpdesk – Did you know you can get some helpdesk software for free (We suggest you obtain a paid version.)  Not only does a properly implemented request tracking system provide valuable feedback and accountability, but it also accomplishes:

    1. Problem Identification – “We spend a lot of time supporting QuickBooks, we need to find out why.”

    2. Resolution Alerts and Escalation – “I just got an alert that Steve’s request hasn’t been assigned and it’s been over an hour.”

    3. Collaboration and Sharing Lessons Learned – “I’ve not seen this before, let me check to see if someone else has solved this one previously.”

    4. Repository for procedures and important documentation – “I was just notified that have five laptops hitting end of life and our quarterly Vulnerability assessment is due to be completed in 10 days. I’ll make sure that requests have been opened and assigned for each of these.”
